I rarely share personal photos here, but since I’ve been loving Happy Place sessions the last few months, I decided to share a little bit about our own Happy Place.  About three years ago our family moved back to Houston after a four year “vacation” in San Diego.  We try to go back as often as we can because we love and miss it so much…the friends, the weather, the beach, the hills….gah, I could go on and on.

This summer, we knew we wanted to take the kids back to Disneyland but we decided to add on from there.  Andy’s sister and her family recently relocated to Washington state and we had been anxious to visit, so we figured..why not just extend the trip and combine the two?  So our original week long California getaway turned into an almost three week adventure exploring the Pacific Northwest and ending up in Southern California.  It. Was. Amazing.

Rather than go on about it, I’ll stop and share through pictures and video (if you make it all the way to the bottom of the post, you will find my first personal  Life in Motion video).

We decided to do Grace’s 18 month old session at home because Mom knew that’s where everything she loved would be.  I was excited because I think in home sessions are the best thing ever….they capture your family in their happy place, everyone is more relaxed…and there is AIR CONDITIONING….because…it’s Houston and summer is upon us.

We even got to do a Life in Motion video, which you can see at the end of this post.  I so wish I could go back and see more of my own kiddos in the middle of toddler strutting, peek a boo, and belly rolls out in all of their glory!

It wasn’t that long ago that I was sharing Garner’s birth story with you, but we all know how time has that pesky way of going by way too fast and this little guy is already seven months old.  I was beyond excited when Kat asked me to do an in home “Happy Place” session with her family a few weeks ago.  We wanted to let the boys have fun while capturing pictures in sweet spots of their home.   These rooms not only capsulate our memories…they are where true joy, love and comfort are found daily in this stage of life.

These types of Happy Place sessions are my new far and away favorite…..and make sure to scroll down all the way to the bottom to see their Life in Motion add on video!

This photo session was a long time coming.  We originally scheduled in back in May, but that was around the time it rained for a month straight. Then we moved it to July, and that was when we realized that our original idea of an outdoor photo session was probably not going to turn out so great in 100 degree heat.

So, hoping the third time was a charm, we decided that an in home session with air conditioning would make for much happier, cuter pictures all around….and I think we got plenty of those!

There is probably no more special session for me than this one.

My dearest friend of more than 20 years asked me take newborn pictures of her little girl….and it was all I could do to not just snuggle her the entire time and instead, actually remember to click the shutter on the camera because I wanted to just stare at her beautiful face and talk with Sheila about how excited we were she was actually here!

I’m so excited to introduce you to Meyer….

By far the best part of my job is having clients who become great friends of mine.

I’ve only known this family a year, but it feels so much longer in the best of ways.  Erin asked me if I would be willing to come out to their Lake house to take some pictures of her kids just doing life on the lake and of course I jumped at the chance.  I love just letting kids do their thing…not worrying about posing, coordinated outfits, etc…..just capturing them as they are in one of their favorite places.

I LOVED every minute of this session….and even though school is now back in session, looking at these pictures just makes me want to press rewind and go back to those lazy days of summer.

I was beyond thrilled when Allison asked me if instead of doing a maternity session before little Addalyn was born, if we could do a hospital session shortly after she arrived.  She wanted to capture those first few hours of bonding and getting to know their daughter, for themselves as well as for family who wasn’t able to be there right after the birth.  As soon as she asked, I knew this was something I would love to be a part of and was completely honored that this couple entrusted me to capture this special time.

I really am hoping to be able to do these sessions more often, and I so wish I had images like these right after my own kids were born.

I loved everything about this session.  Ironically, it was one of my quickest newborn sessions ever, but I knew when I left we had gotten so many good ones.  Vicente’s parents just snuggled and loved on him and each other, and Vicente soaked it up, as did I.   Again, I’m so honored to be invited in to families homes during such an intimate bonding time.

Lots and lots of babies are keeping me busy, and I’m LOVING it.  Henry’s mom wanted a more lifestyle focused newborn session, which y’all know by now are my favorite!  We had so many moments captured….there are just too many to share!

Everything about a lifestyle newborn session comes so naturally….my camera never stops shooting because there is so much love to capture.

Lifestyle newborn sessions are my absolute favorite sessions to do.  More often than not, these are the types of newborn sessions I get asked to do….moving away from the posed baby shots.  I couldn’t be happier because THIS is what it’s about.  These are the times you’re going to remember, that love and emotion that can never be explained our described…but a picture really does bring you back to that moment.  Even years from now, you’ll remember how it felt to hold their tiny little hand, and how amazing it was to look down and see your whole heart looking right back at you.
